Pension Consultancy Practice Graduate Recruitment Programme
Our Chief Executive Officer believes pensions and employee benefit solutions remain the focus for trustees and employers and it is vital that they receive support and advice from expert consultants such as those employed by HSBC. It is our ambition to grow the range of services we provide in this regard, a vision which underlines the excellent opportunities available to quality staff at all levels.
Professional Development
Intensive formal training courses (including an initial week’s training at our Head Office in St Albans) and practical business exposure will prepare you for a fast-track senior management career. We’ll also give you full support to study for the Fellowship of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries (FIA/FFA).
We will invest a great deal in you and will expect you to put just as much into developing yourself. Most of your subsequent training will be on the job but the pace and extent of your progress is ultimately in your own hands.
Our team structure will enable you to work closely with experienced, qualified consultants and actuaries to provide support in all areas of actuarial pensions consulting. Our standard study package currently includes:
Although we offer a very generous study package, ultimately it is down to you to put in the work required to stand the best chance of gaining the FIA/FFA qualification quickly. We are looking for candidates who can motivate themselves and have the self-discipline needed to meet the demands of combining study with a full-time career.
As well as extensive training and development, we offer a very attractive remuneration package that includes a highly competitive salary, annual bonus, personal accident, life insurance, permanent health insurance and membership of our pension scheme.
Who are we looking for?
We expect our graduate recruits to:
Since the FIA/FFA qualification is very onerous across a wide range of subjects, we are looking for candidates who are strong academically. Typical academic requirements include:
Our recruiting process typically involves an interview with an actuary in our Pensions Consulting Practice plus a selection of exercises, such as a presentation or letter writing.
We have now filled all our vacancies for the 2009 graduate programme. We will be opening for 2010 applications later in the year.
Summer Placement programme:
Summer placement work is available in our St Albans Head Office and London Office to penultimate year undergraduates aiming for a good degree result. These placements are intended to give you an overview of what kind of work actuaries do and what it’s like working for us.
The summer placement involves working in a team of actuaries, consultants and actuarial students on a wide range of pension related work. Some of the tasks you will find yourself involved in are carrying out individual calculations for members of pension schemes and corresponding with these members. You are also likely to get involved in drafting and amending reports, working on calculation spreadsheets and carrying out general pension calculations.
How long will it last and will I be paid?
The placement lasts approximately 2 months, and is flexible around holidays you have booked over the summer period. Students are paid during their placement.
We are currently closed for applications. We will publish our future vacancies and more information on how to apply here.
